Day 173 : Pottermore

[5 February 2012]

In today’s Toastmaster meeting I was one of the speakers. Few days ago I listed all the things I was quite familiar and passionate to tell about, and finally decided to present about Harry Potter in general, and Pottermore website in specific. I usually wear contact lens everywhere, but today I wore my glasses, Hogwarts t-shirt and owl necklace to match with my speech.

I won Best Speaker again (yay! Is it only me who really cares about these weekly award? Haha). One of the good comments for me was about my body movement. In my last speeches, some evaluators commented that I only stood in one spot, and didn’t have eye-contact with audience. But this time, my performance seemed more relax. I kept eye-contact with audience, and walked from one side of stage to another (maybe too much, I wonder if the audience got dizzy seeing me back and forth xD). While one of the critical comments was I should pause a little bit during my speech. Yes, I realized that I talked faster than I planned. When I practiced it at home, it spent about six and half minutes. But in the real show, I finished it around 5 minutes.

Anyway, I think I’m good at prepared speech, speech that has been well-written and well-memorized. But for impromptu speech, I still cannot manage my brain to say the things I want to say, or even cannot come up with any idea to speak. I still need to improve on that.

Anyway again, I didn’t plan to go for second round today but ended up going just because I couldn’t resist to NOT hanging out with my Toastmaster friends. You know I love my Toastmaster friends a lot! We had dinner in a Chinese restaurant. Because of my speech about Harry Potter in the meeting before, our main topic during dinner was books and movies. It’s funny when I found out that MANY Korean guys love watching romantic movies like Love Actually until 10 times! Well, no wonder, it’s Korea, the land of cheesy dramatic romance :P
